Scholarships

The Center provides scholarships for both graduate and undergraduate students each academic year.  The following endowed scholarships are available:

Michael J. Horne Endowed Scholarship

Robert Weitzman Memorial Scholarship

Josie Carlson Memorial Scholarship

Charlie H. Wurtzebach Endowed Scholarship

 

In addition, the Center works with a number of professional real estate associations that provide scholarships to students as well as discounted registration fees for memberships and special events.  Such associations include: REFF, SIOR, CREW, ULI, CoreNet and PREA among others.

Urban Land Institute (ULI) - Nicholas V. Trkla Scholarship Fund

The Nicholas (Nick) V. Trkla Scholarship Fund was started in 1997 by ULI Chicago in memory of Nick Trkla, a ULI Trustee and the first Chairman of the ULI Chicago District Council. Mr. Trkla, President and founder of a Chicago-based planning and financial development consulting firm, was responsible for revitalization programs throughout Chicagoland and in over 80 cities nationwide. Mr. Trkla was especially committed to the betterment of inner cities as demonstrated by his work to revitalize the North Lawndale community. Since its inception, the Scholarship has been awarded to graduate level students from Chicago area universities who excel in their studies, who embody the civic spirit of Nick, plus his interest in and commitment to sensible land use, community involvement, and ULI.

ICSC JOHN T. RIORDAN PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION SCHAOLARSHIP

The ICSC Educational Foundation established the John T. Riordan Professional Education Scholarship to encourage and promote the attainment of professional education and to further the career development of industry professionals by enabling deserving individuals to attend ICSC’s professional development schools. The program is special in that recipients may choose to attend Management, Marketing, Leasing, or Development, Design and Construction Institute classes developed by ICSC offered in the John T. Riordan School for Professional Development. The scholarship includes enrollment fees and all accompanying textbooks and workbooks necessary for the classes, airfare, hotel stay and program meals. At least one of the scholarships each year will be awarded to a non-U.S. professional to attend one of ICSC’s schools offered outside the U.S. The scholarship will also fund any trip to which the recipient is invited to attend to receive the award. The program honors John T. Riordan’s legacy and his commitment to the cause of education and professional development in the shopping center industry. John T. Riordan joined ICSC in 1982 and was promoted to President in 1986. He stepped down from the post of President and CEO in 2001.

Women in Real Estate Scholarship

The Real Estate Finance Forum Scholarship fund was created in 2006 to encourage the rise of young women who have chosen to pursue an education in real estate for the purpose of building a career in a real estate related field. Each year four $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to a junior, senior, or graduate student concentrating in the real estate area.

CREW CHICAGO scholarship for commercial real estate women of chicago

CREW Chicago annually awards one or two scholarships in the amount of $3,000 for graduate and undergraduate students majoring or concentrating in real estate, construction, facility management, architecture, urban planning, real estate law, land economics, real estate appraisal or related real estate fields. The scholarships are primarily awarded on the basis of academic excellence and are intended to help qualified students pursue an education that will lead them into productive careers in commercial real estate. Applicants must be enrolled for the academic year in which the award is being sought.
